A few months ago I stumbled across mixcloud – a little late to the party, perhaps, as they’ve been at this game since late 2009 and their offices are just down the road in Old Street. They’re not just another internet radio station: they’re the one where you upload the radio.
It’s a little different than soundcloud, which is awesome if you create or remix tracks and want to get them out there to share alongside the occasional DJ mix. Mixcloud is a bit different as they focus on internet radio, podcasts, and DJ mixes. The really nice thing for those of us who care about ensuring that artists get paid, is that mixcloud lets you tag up the mixes with the artist and track information, and then use that to automatically distribute the cash to who it should go to. We like this.
The great news is that if you slept through most of 2010, you can now pop over to mixcloud for their Best of 2010 awards, made up from a combination of user votes and stats from the music hosted, and played, on mixcloud.
Although for many of us this kind of “best of” list is a trip down memory lane, I promise you that if you go check it out you will hear something you haven’t heard, something good you’ve missed this year – and if that’s not why you’re reading a music blog then… why are you here again?!
